Yusuf Tekin (born 3 August 1970) is a Turkish bureaucrat and politician. He is the Minister of National Education of the 67th government of Turkey.[1]
He was born in Tortum, Erzurum in 1970. He completed his primary and secondary education in Rize, graduating from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences in 1994, and starting his professional career in the same year as a research assistant at Sivas Cumhuriyet University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
Tekin, who completed his master's degree in political and social sciences in 1997 and his doctorate in 2002, was appointed as a faculty member at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Tekin, who served as an assistant professor until 2007, became an associate professor in the field of Politics and Social Sciences in the same year.[2] After working at Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University until 2009, he was appointed to the Faculty of Security Sciences of the Police Academy.
During his academic career, he also held administrative positions such as department head, vice dean, university senate member, faculty and institute board member.
Tekin was inaugurated as the Undersecretary at the Ministry of National Education in 2013 and served as the chairman of the board of trustees of Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University between 2015 and 2018.
Tekin, who returned to teaching after the position of undersecretary was abolished with the new government system, was appointed as a professor at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration.[3] On September 15, 2018 Tekin started his duty as the rector of Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. Tekin was appointed as the Minister of National Education on June 4, 2023,[4] [5] while serving as rector.[6]
Tekin has previously expressed his views regarding Mixed-sex education, stating that "Mixed-sex education isn't required" in 2014.[7] [8]
Tekin is married to Ayşe Tekin and has 3 children. He also adequately speaks English.
