"Slide" is a song by American hip hop supergroup ¥$, composed of rapper Kanye West and singer Ty Dolla Sign. It was released as the lead single from the duo's second collaborative album, Vultures 2, on August 2, 2024, only a day before the album was released.[1] [2] [3] The song was first released on West's Yeezy website the day before but only a few hours before midnight in areas like the United States and Canada. It was produced by West and Ty, alongside AyoAA, Leon Thomas III, Lester Nowhere and Peter Lee Johnson, while Cyhi the Prynce and the Legendary Traxster received writing credits, along with all the producers except for Lester Nowhere. Before its release, the song was rumored to feature vocals from English singer-songwriter James Blake, and production by Fred Again, who previewed and played it during live events before its official release.
Billboard ranked "Slide" as the second best song on Vultures 2. They wrote, "The ominous organs feel as if fans are about to experience the rollercoaster ride of a lifetime or having their tickets punched to the next Marvel movie."[4] The Guardian singled out "Slide" as an instance of West having an "inventive flow" on Vultures 2, a rarity according to its review of the album, where he "asymmetrically presses words on to [the songs] seasick beat."[5]
On 13 August 2024, a black-and-white music video was released on YouTube. Directed by West and Aus Taylor, the latter described it as "a portrait of the blade", a strip of road associated with prostitution. Most of the women are scantily clad, either hanging around the sidewalks or talking to men, who are implied to be their clients. This takes place in a run-down setting, with scenes of homeless tents, people sleeping on the street, and piles of trash in a single side-angle shot.[6]
