Sarah Toscano (born 9 January 2006), known professionally by the mononym Sarah, is an Italian singer-songwriter. In 2024 she won the twenty-third edition of the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi.[1]

Early life

Born in 2006 in Vigevano, in the province of Pavia,[2] Sarah Toscano is the third and youngest child of Petra Polomsky, a German teacher originally from Stuttgart, and Marco Toscano, an entrepreneur in the leather sector;[3] she has an older sister, Giulia, and an older brother, Lorenzo.[4] [5] At the age of five, she began studying the piano and soon began participating in and winning international competitions.[6] [7] Devoted to karaoke, her father decided to have her listen to Andrea Dulio, an international manager, who took her to a recording studio, where he had her record her first songs.[8] [9] During her childhood and adolescence she was musically inspired by several international artists, including Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande and Rihanna[10] and Italian artists, including Annalisa, Elodie, Angelina Mango, Emma, ​​Tananai and Ultimo,[11] while her works draw on the pop and dance pop genres.[12] [13]

Passionate about tennis, during her childhood she played in the women's C series, winning the provincial tennis championship in 2020 with the Sporting Club Selva Alta.[14] [15] She attended the Bachelet linguistic high school in Abbiategrasso, Milan,[16] interrupting her studies in the fifth year to participate in the twenty-third edition of Amici di Maria De Filippi.[17] [18]

Career

Recording debut

In 2022 she was selected among the twenty finalists of the Area Sanremo[19] singing competition and although she was not selected as a competitor in Sanremo Giovani, she won the plaque dedicated to Vittorio De Scalzi.[20] [21] On 21 October the same year his first EP, Riflesso, was released, containing six tracks and produced by the Universal Music Italia label, which included his first single "9 giugno".[22] [23]

2023–2024: Participation in Amici 23 and Sarah

In September 2023 she participated in the auditions of the twenty-third edition of the musical talent show broadcast on Canale 5 Amici di Maria De Filippi, then entering the initial phase.[24] [25] In March 2023 she gained access to the evening phase of the program by joining the team led by professors Lorella Cuccarini and Emanuel Lo[26] [27] and the following May she reached the final, emerging as the winner.[28] [29]

During the program he published several unreleased songs, including "Touché",[30] "Viole e violini",[31] "Mappamondo",[32] "Voilà" (live version of the song of the same name by French singer-songwriter Barbara Pravi),[33] "Sexy magica"[34] [35] and "L'ultima volta",[36] which later includes all six of them in the EP of the same name,[37] published on 17 May 2024 by the Warner Music Italy label,[38] which then debuted at number 12 on the FIMI chart.[39] The song "Sexy magica" then reached number 83 on the FIMI chart.[40]

From 15 June to 28 August 2024 Sarah Live Summer 2024, her first summer tour, took place from Rome to Monterosso al Mare (SP).[41] In the summer of the same year, she performed in music event, including the "Future Hits Live",[42] "RDS Summer Festival",[43] "TIM Summer Hits", "Battiti Live",[44] "105 Summer Festival"[45] and "Yoga Radio Bruno Estate".[46]

2024: Unreleased projects and first collaboration

On 16 July 2024 he opened the concert of the Black Eyed Peas in Milan.[47] On 26 July he released the single "Roulette", included in the streaming reissue of his self-titled EP.[48] [49] In August Apple Music indicated her as the Up Next Italia artist, an initiative aimed at identifying and promoting emerging talents,[50] [51] celebrated on 12 September with a performance at the amphitheater in Piazza del Liberty (MI).[52] [53] In September she paraded for the first time at the 81st Venice International Film Festival,[54] [55] at the Billboard Italia Women in Music at the Manzoni theatre[56] and at Milan Fashion Week, both in Milan.[57]

On 29 September 2024, during the first episode of the twenty-fourth edition of Amici di Maria De Filippi,[58] he previewed his new single "Tacchi (fra le dita)", which will be released on 4 October.[59] [60] In November, she teamed up with clothing brand Horda to launch her signature winter sweatshirts on the market, accompanied on the back by a quote from the song "Tacchi (fra le dita)".[61]

On 22 November 2024 the song "Safety Net" by British singer Bea and her Business was released (the Italian version of the song of the same name released on 13 September),[62] [63] in which Sarah collaborated for the first time with an international artist, singing both in Italian and English.[64] [65] On 27 November she took part in the second episode of the program This Is Me, broadcast on Canale 5 and hosted by Silvia Toffanin, where she performed first in a duet with Il Volo with the song Capolavoro and then alone with the song "Tacchi (fra le dita)".[66]

2024–present: Sanremo Music Festival 2025

On 1 December 2024 Carlo Conti announced to TG1 his participation in the 75th Sanremo Festival,[67] which will take place from 11 to 15 February 2025.[68] [69]
