Grebya (today called Söğütlü) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians. In 1914, it was populated by 300 Assyrians, according to the list presented to the Paris Peace Conference by the Assyro-Chaldean delegation. There were ten Assyrian families in 1915. Amidst the Sayfo, the Assyrians were escorted to safety at Hebob by Agha Hassan of Grebya. The village had around thirty Turoyo-speaking Christian families in 1968. Kurdish was also spoken by some in the village. By 1987, there were no remaining Assyrians.
