The Romania women's national rugby union team first played in 2007. Their widely recognized nickname is "The Acorns", as an offshoot of the men's team which are called "The Oaks".
The history of the Romanian team currently boils down to two participations in 2007 and 2008 in the European Women's Trophy organized by FIRA. They won their first international test match in 2007, in Watermael-Boitsfort, against Serbia with a score of 65–0, which remains their greatest success today.
