Prozis is an internet-based Portuguese brand that pertains to the Prozis group and is active in the sports nutrition sector.[1] The company operates out of its main headquarters in Esposende, which also houses its research and development center, and for tax purposes is headquartered in Madeira Island’s special economic zone.[2] Prozis was founded in 2007 by Miguel Milhão.[3] In 2015, it employed over 230 people and had a revenue of more than 45 million euros.[4] [5] By 2016, it was one of the biggest sports nutrition online stores in Europe, with over 800,000 registered and active customers across more than 100 markets. As of 2024, the company operates in the United States as well and employs around 1,500 people worldwide. Prozis has also invested significantly in manufacturing, including the construction of a 20 million euros factory in South Carolina to support its growth in the US market.[6]

Besides selling sports supplements online and in large supermarket chains (like Continente in Portugal), it also produces them on a large scale at its production facility in Póvoa de Lanhoso, in which an amount of 5 million euros was invested.[7] In addition to supplements, the company designs and manufactures athletic apparel.[8]

Partnerships

Prozis has used influencer marketing to drive its growth, partnering with fitness influencers in Spain, Italy, Germany and Portugal.[9] [10] [11] [12] These collaborations form a cornerstone of the company’s marketing strategy, helping to establish a strong presence in the fitness community and significantly boosting brand visibility and customer engagement. In 2021, Prozis became the most tagged brand on Instagram in Portugal, with a total of 41,872 mentions.[13]

Prozis was a partner of the ATRP (Associação de Trail Running de Portugal, the Portuguese Trail Running Association)[14] and became a sponsor of the Portuguese Trail Running Championships as of 2016, as a naming partner.[15] The championships are made up of four competitions, of which three are national championships and one is the Portuguese Cup. In turn, these competitions are divided over 24 events, and over 100,000 athletes are expected to participate.[16] In this discipline only, Prozis invested approximately 1 million euros.[17]

Prozis was also the official nutrition supplier of European football clubs such as Valencia CF in Spain,[18] [19] AS Monaco FC in France,[20] [21] AS Roma[22] and Inter Milan[23] in Italy, and several clubs in Portugal: FC Porto,[24] S.L. Benfica,[25] Sporting CP,[26] S. C. Braga,[27] Vitória S.C.,[28] F.C. Paços de Ferreira,[29] Rio Ave F.C.,[30] G.D. Chaves,[31] S.C. Olhanense,[32] C.D. Aves,[33] [34] S.C. Freamunde,[35] Varzim S.C.,[36] Vitória F.C. (Setúbal),[37] F.C. Famalicão[38] and Académica.[39] It also sponsored the sports careers of Portuguese surfers such as António Rodrigues, Carol Henrique and Miguel Blanco.[40]

In January 2017 Prozis became the official nutrition supplier of Lega Basket Serie A (LBA)[41] and the title-sponsor for the 2017 Italian Supercup.[42]

Prozis also expanded into eSports by partnering with Bluejays Sports, a German eSports organisation, in July 2018.[43]

Awards and recognition

Prozis was one of the brands that received, in Portugal, the "Escolha do Consumidor 2016" (Consumer's Choice) award in the area of health and well-being, more specifically in the category "Sports Supplements".[44] [45] For its success in exports, Prozis was also awarded the "Prémio Exportadora Revelação" (Exports Revelation Award), destined to distinguish and promote the success of companies that strive for export and international business. This prize was an initiative of Novobanco and Jornal de Negócios in a partnership with IGNIOS, who together created the 2016 edition of the Export and Internationalisation awards.[46]
