North East Assembly (NEA) was an unelected regional chamber for the North East region of England,[1] based in Gateshead.

Plans to establish a directly elected regional assembly for the North East of England were rejected in a referendum held in November 2004.

The regional chamber was abolished in March 2009 with its functions being transferred to One NorthEast, the Regional Development Agency, and the Association of North East Councils, the Local Authority Leaders’ Board. [2]
