Newtonia (plant) explained
Newtonia is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family, Fabaceae. It includes 16 species of trees native to sub-Saharan Africa. It belongs to subfamily Caesalpinioideae[1] and the Mimosoid clade[1] or tribe. The genus is known from the early Miocene (21.73 Ma) of Ethiopia based on compressions of its diagnostic, winged seeds. [2]
16 extant species are accepted.[3]
