Nasiyanur is a panchayat town located adjoining the city of Erode in Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on National Highway NH 544 between Perundurai and Chithode. As a panchayat town, Nasiyanur is in a state of transition from rural to urban.
As of the 2011 India census, Nasiyanur had a population of 10,970. This was an overall increase of 1,068 persons (or 10.79%) from the 9,902 persons counted during 2001. Males constitute 49.6% of the population (5,445) and females 50.3% (5,525).[1] The literacy rate for males as of 2011 was 62.8%, and the rate for females was 72.7%. Nasiyanur has an average literacy rate of 71.6, lower than the state average of 80.1%. In Nasiyanur, children between the ages of zero and six compromise 8.1% of the population, numbering 883.
97.3% of the population is Hindu, 1.8% Christian, 0.8%% Muslim, and 0.03% Sikh. As of 2011, 21.6% of Nasiyanur was Scheduled Caste, and 0.01% of the population was Scheduled Tribe.
Nasiyanur is an evergreen place. Erode relies heavily on the Turmeric industry, so the main occupation in Nasiyanur is agriculture, followed by textiles and then poultry. 53.5% of the population is employed in some capacity, and Nasiyanur is a highly impoverished area. There has been some turmoil over the agriculture prices, including a protest in which farmers poured their milk into the street.[2]
The 2021 census did not occur.[3] This was officially due to COVID-19 and was postponed indefinitely. It will not occur until after the 2024 elections.[4]
Nasiyanur comprises fifteen districts. Every five years, the panchayats hold elections to decide on council members.
The majority party of Erode is DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam). DMK is also the majority party in the other twenty municipal corporations of Tamil Nadu. Under the laws of Tamil Nadu, the Executive Officer of the town answers to the officials of the district units, who in turn answer to the heads of their departments, and finally the leaders of government.
