Meiram - The Fire Line Explained

Meiram - The Fire Line is a 2022 Manipuri documentary film written and directed by James Khangembam.^{[1] [2] [3]} It was the opening film at the 17th Mumbai International Film Festival 2022.^{[4] [5] [6]} The film was selected in the International Prism section of the festival.^{[7] [8]} It also got selection in the Competition Short Documentary section of the 14th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) 2022.^{[9] [10]} The film was commercially screened at Tanthapolis Cinema, Lamphel on 4 March 2023.^{[11] [12] [13]}

Meiram - The Fire Line was screened at the Sangai Film Festival 2022, which was organised as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.^{[14] [15] [16] [17]}

Synopsis

The film narrates the revolutionary environmental movement initiated by Moirangthem Loiya at Langol hills for forest conservation. Moirangthem Loiya along with a group of his friends rejuvenated a 300 acre forest through dedicated replantation and preservation work in a span of 18 years. The particular focus of the film is on a strategy of using controlled fire to clear narrow strips of shrubs and grass in the periphery of a forest in order to prevent wild forest fires spreading and consuming the rest of the forest.^[18]
