Martin Luther King Jr. College Preparatory High School, previously known as Frayser High School, was a charter high school located in Memphis, Tennessee. It was demolished in fall of 2024. It operated as part of the Frayser Community Schools district between 2014-2024.[1]
The auditorium and gym were opened in 1951.[2]
On July 1, 2014, the newly formed Frayser Community Schools, led by former Westside Middle School principal Bobby White, took over Frayser High School and renamed it MLK Jr. College Preparatory High.[3]
MLK Jr. College Prep closed after the 2023-24 school year, when Memphis Shelby County Schools didn't allow the school to return to the district as a charter school.[4]
In November 2024, MSCS allocated an additional $11 million for the replacement school on the site following the failure to get a zoning variance for the planned Cordova high school.[5]
