Kapil Harishchandra Patil is an Indian politician and member of Indian National Congress. He was Founder and President of the Samajwadi Ganarajya Party till October 2024. He is a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Mumbai Teachers constituency and was June 2006 to July 2024.
He was the founder of the political party Lok Bharati. In 2017, Lok Bharati merged with Janata Dal (United). But when the split occurred in JD(U), he had stood with Sharad Yadav. For the MLC polls in 2018, he filed nomination as a Lok Bharati candidate and won.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
On 3 March 2024, Kapil Patil resigned as Primary Member and National General Secretary of Janata Dal (United) (JDU) as he opposed Janata Dal (United) joining National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He launched his party named Samajwadi Ganarajya Party (SGP) on 3 March 2024 in Dharavi in presence of Former Chief Minister Of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray and Former Schooling Education Minister of Maharashtra Varsha Gaikwad.[6]
On 20 October 2024, Kapil Patil merged his Samajwadi Ganarajya Party into Congress Party In Present of All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, Maharashtra Congress Election In-Charge, Ramesh Chennithala & Former Schooling Education Minister of Maharashtra, Varsha Gaikwad[7]
