Jarrow and Gateshead East (UK Parliament constituency) explained

Jarrow and Gateshead East is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.^[1] Created as a result of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election and is currently held by Kate Osborne of the Labour Party, who previously held the abolished constituency of Jarrow from 2019 to 2024.^[2]

History

The seat was formed from the existing Jarrow constituency, excluding the Cleadon and East Boldon ward, with the addition of the Felling, and Windy Nook and Whitehills wards from Gateshead.^[3]

Boundaries

The constituency is composed of the following (as they existed on 1 December 2020):

• The Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead wards of: Felling; Pelaw and Heworth; Wardley and Leam Lane; Windy Nook and Whitehills.
• The Metropolitan Borough of South Tyneside wards of: Bede; Boldon Colliery; Fellgate and Hedworth; Hebburn North; Hebburn South; Monkton; Primrose.^[4]
