Hristiyan Ivaylov Petrov (bg|Християн Ивайлов Петров; born 24 June 2002) is a Bulgarian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for CSKA Sofia and the Bulgaria national team.[2] [3]
Petrov joined CSKA Sofia from the Lokomotiv Plovdiv academy in 2017. He signed his first professional contract with CSKA on 23 June 2020 and made his senior league debut for the club on 22 August 2021.[4] [5] [6] He made his debut in the UEFA Europa Conference League on 4 August 2022 against St Patrick's Athletic.[7] [8] At the end of December 2022, Petrov extended his contract for another 3 years.[9] He was chosen by his team as the best youngster for 2022.[10]
Petrov received his first call-up for the Bulgaria national team on 5 September 2022, for the games of the UEFA Nations League games against Gibraltar and North Macedonia on 23 and 23 September 2022.[11] In March 2023 he received another call-up, after firstly being listed for the U21 team, but had to replace the injured Dimo Krastev in the main squad.[12] On 24 March 2023, Petrov earned his first cap, appearing as a starter in the 0:1 home loss against Montenegro before being replaced by Yanis Karabelyov around the one hour mark.[13]
