Horae Beatae Mariae Virginis is a thumb-sized miniature prayer book for lay people, written in Latin in the late 15th or early 16th century.
The manuscript belonged to the library of the Zamoyski family. After World War II the family library was donated to the National Library of Poland, to which the manuscript belongs to now. Since May 2024, the manuscript is exhibited at a permanent exhibition in the Palace of the Commonwealth in Warsaw.[2]
The manuscript contains a book of hours, daily prayers asking for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Despite its tiny format, the manuscript contains 13 full-page miniatures, numerous gold initials and even a bookmark. Decorations are typical of French prayer books from the late 15th and early 16th century. Decorations may have been made in Tours.
