Hardy is a city in Humboldt County, Iowa, United States. The population was 57 at the time of the 2020 census.[2]
Hardy got its start in the year 1881, following construction of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Falls and Northwestern Railway through that territory.[3]
Hardy is located at 42.8103°N -94.0517°W (42.810207, -94.051713).[4]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.44sqmi, all land.[5]
As of the census of 2020,[6] there were 57 people, 21 households, and 17 families residing in the city. The population density was 126.7 inhabitants per square mile (48.9/km2). There were 25 housing units at an average density of 55.6 per square mile (21.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.2% White, 1.8% Black or African American, 0.0% Native American, 0.0% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, 0.0% from other races and 7.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino persons of any race comprised 3.5% of the population.
Of the 21 households, 47.6% of which had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.6% were married couples living together, 9.5% were cohabitating couples, 19.0% had a female householder with no spouse or partner present and 23.8% had a male householder with no spouse or partner present. 19.0% of all households were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals, 4.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older.
The median age in the city was 32.8 years. 35.1% of the residents were under the age of 20; 3.5% were between the ages of 20 and 24; 19.3% were from 25 and 44; 31.6% were from 45 and 64; and 10.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.1% male and 50.9% female.

The Humboldt Community School District operates public schools.[9] The city is served by Mease Elementary (Dakota City), Taft Elementary School (Humboldt), Humboldt Middle School, and Humboldt High School.
