Fast XI explained
Fast XI is an upcoming American action film. It is the sequel to Fast X (2023) and the eleventh and final installment in the main Fast & Furious film franchise and the twelfth full-length Fast & Furious film released in the series. Louis Leterrier is set to direct, returning after previously directing Fast X, from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel, and the story by Zach Dean.
Development on an eleventh main Fast & Furious film began by October 2020. Vin Diesel discussed the eleventh main film from June 2021 to March 2023. Leterrier was set to return to direct and Hodson and Uziel were hired to write the screenplay in April 2023, and Dwayne Johnson was announced to return to the franchise in early May. Pre-production of the film was suspended due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes. The title was revealed in February 2024 and Dean was revealed to have written the story treatment in June. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2025.
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States in 2026.

- Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, a former DSS agent who allied with Dom and his team following their outings in Rio de Janeiro and Europe.
Production
Development
After F9 was eventually delayed to June 2021, Universal Pictures began developing two sequels as the conclusion of the mainline series.[1] [2] Actor Vin Diesel called the eleventh film the second part of Fast X (2023) and "the finale of the saga".[3] This was echoed by longtime series director Justin Lin that September, who revealed the two-part finale, saying, "Every day, I try to configure and make sure whatever we're [discussing] will yield the best result. I think having one chapter in two [films] is correct".[4] This was then also confirmed in an interview by Louis Leterrier, who replaced Lin as the director for Fast X, who said, "[''Fast X''] is big. What we're planning for the next [film] is gigantic, in terms of action, scope and emotion. You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll".[5]
In February 2023, Diesel confirmed the eleventh film would be the final main installment, saying, "What gets harder [about the films] is the work off-screen. The thinking, the expanding... It's hard to continue mythologies. There's a reason why Tolkien stopped writing after a while".[6] [7] Two months later, Leterrier was announced to return as the director for the eleventh film with Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel set to write the screenplay.[8] [9] Pre-production of the film was suspended in July due to 2023 Hollywood labor disputes,[10] Leterrier confirmed these reports month later.[11] Fast X budget and modest box office performance reworked the eleventh's continuation as a finale in January 2024. Diesel stated that it could concentrate on "a throwback to the original film", which consisted of a single mission and a different antagonist instead of Jason Momoa's character Dante Reyes.[12] The next month, Diesel reaffirmed the eleventh film is the final main installment. The title was reported to be Fast X: Part 2, though not directly stated by Diesel.[13] In June, Zach Dean was revealed to have written the story treatment, although it was unknown whether he was replacing Hodson and Uziel or writing the screenplay alongside them.[14]
Casting
In February 2023, Diesel said he wanted Robert Downey Jr. to star in the final installment as the main antagonist, revealing a character has been developed which is "the antithesis of Dom". Meanwhile, Michelle Rodriguez said she wanted Matt Damon to be included in the final film.[15] On May 12, 2023, it was announced that Dwayne Johnson would be reprising his role as Luke Hobbs in the film, despite his previous declarations that he had exited the franchise due to his well-known feuds with Diesel.[16] Ten days later, Alan Ritchson revealed that there have been talks about him reprising his role as Agent Aimes from the previous film in a major capacity, assuring that he is ready to return.[17]
Filming
Principal photography is scheduled to begin in early 2025. It was initially scheduled to be shot back-to-back with Fast X,[18] beginning in January 2022.
Release
The film is scheduled to be released in the United States in 2026.[19] It was previously scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025.[20]
Future
Although Diesel unveiled two sequels to Fast X, depending on its performance, Leterrier considered whether the eleventh film to be the franchise's last installment or not.[21] In August 2023, Leterrier stated the news there are no plans to make a third part Fast X film.[22]
