FM Conway is a UK-based family-run civil engineering contractor specialising in highways and other infrastructure work. Subject to regulatory approval, the company will become part of Vinci in early 2025.

History

The company was founded in 1961 by Francis Michael Conway; his son Michael Conway then served as CEO for more than 40 years,[1] and was later succeeded as CEO and chair by his daughter Joanne Conway. [2] It has a network of asphalt and aggregate recycling manufacturing plants serving London and Southern England, as well as two Thames-side wharves, at Erith and Gravesend.[3] The company was based in Dartford, Kent, but moved its headquarters to Sevenoaks in 2016.[4]

In February 2020, FM Conway was suspended from the Prompt Payment Code for failure to pay suppliers on time.[5] It was reinstated in August 2020 after process improvements.[6]

In May 2023, FM Conway bought Essex-based drainage contractor Flowline out of administration, saving 164 jobs.[7]

In January 2024, FM Conway replaced an existing road surface in Westminster, using 92% recycled materials, believed to be the highest level achieved on a UK road.[8] In October 2024, Vinci agreed terms to purchase the business.[9] Subject to regulatory approvals, the deal is expected to complete in early 2025.[10]
