Cross Timbers is a city in Hickory County, Missouri, United States. The population was 119 at the 2020 census.[3]
A post office called Cross Timbers has been in operation since 1847.[4] The community was named for a strip of trees (colloquially a "cross timber") near the original town site.[5] The town was platted in 1871.[6]
Cross Timbers is located at 38.0244°N -93.2281°W (38.024401, -93.228072).[7]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.45sqmi, all land.[8]
As of the census[9] of 2010, there were 216 people, 93 households, and 50 families residing in the city. The population density was 480PD/sqmi. There were 116 housing units at an average density of 257.8/sqmi. The racial makeup of the city was 99.5% White and 0.5% from two or more races.
There were 93 households, of which 25.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.6% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.6% had a male householder with no wife present, and 46.2% were non-families. 37.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 3.24.
The median age in the city was 44.7 years. 25% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 19.5% were from 25 to 44; 31.9% were from 45 to 64; and 17.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.1% male and 51.9% female.
