Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period Film explained

The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Period Film is one of the annual awards given by the Costume Designers Guild. The 1st Costume Designers Guild Awards in 1998 presented a combined award to honor achievements in film costume design without any genre distinction; it was split into Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film and Excellence in Contemporary Film the following ceremony. The former award was given out from 1999 until 2004 to also include fantasy films. Since 2005, two separate categories for Excellence in Period Film and Excellence in Fantasy Film have been established, with each genre receiving its own award.
