Chobiyal is a 2020 Bengali thriller drama film directed by Manas Basu and produced by Milan Dutta.[1] This film is under the banner of Paramhansha Chitram.[2] The film was released on 11 December 2020.[3]
Habol, a passionate photographer, has a studio near a crematorium and has a particular interest in photographing dead bodies. He works with a senior photographer Kanak in various wedding photoshoots. One day, when Kanak leaves town, a mysterious woman named Labonya, who is a housewife, approaches Habol. Captivated by her, he falls in love, and they begin to live together. When Habol's friends ask about their relationship, he and Labonya suddenly disappears from the area.[4] [5]
The plot of Chobiyal (translated as The photographer in Bengali cinema) weaves elements of mystery, romance and a bit of the supernatural. Habol's fascination with photographing the deceased reflects his struggle with societal norms and his unusual view of life and death. when Labonya enters his life, she brings an enigmatic presence that disrupts his world, merging his obsessions with his deep-seated loneliness. As their relationship intensifies, so does the sense of mystery around Labonya, leading to an eerie climax that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy.
