Chahar Borj (fa|چهاربرج) is a city in the Central District of Chaharborj County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[2] It is 23km (14miles) from the south shore of Lake Urmia and 21km (13miles) northwest of the city of Miandoab. As the village of Chahar Borj-e Qadim, it was the capital of Marhemetabad-e Shomali Rural District[3] until the capital was transferred to the village of Shabanlu.[2]

Demographics

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 7,940 in 1,937 households,[4] when it was capital of the former Marhemetabad District of Miandoab County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 8,681 people in 2,496 households.[6] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 9,406 people in 2,793 households.[7]

In 2021, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Chaharborj County, and Chahar Borj was transferred to the new Central District as the county's capital.[2]
