Canadian Pacific 3716 is a N-2-b class 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type steam locomotive built by the Montreal Locomotive Works for the Canadian Pacific Railway, owned and operated by the Kettle Valley Steam Railway in British Columbia, Canada.

History

No. 3716 was built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1912 as a N-2-b class locomotive, it was originally numbered as No. 3916, but would later be renumbered again to No. 3716.[1] [2] [3]

In 1929, the locomotive was rebuilt and converted to burn oil.[3] The engine was retired in 1966 and was sent to be scrapped at Port Coquitlam before it was saved.[3] the locomotive need some repairs and was restored to operating condition in 1975.[3]

After working alongside CP 2860, BC Rail's passenger excursion service was shut down in April 2001.[3] In 2003, the locomotive was sold to the Kettle Valley Steam Railway and placed into service on May 22, 2005, it was also given the nickname "The Spirit Of Summerland".[3], the locomotive continues operating.[3]
