Callitriche palustris explained
Callitriche palustris, the vernal water-starwort, narrow-fruited water-starwort, or spiny water starwort, is a species of aquatic plants. It is the type species of its genus.
It is native to temperate and subtropical North America and Eurasia, as well as Sumatra and Borneo.
Subspecies and varieties
Six subspecies and varieties are accepted.
- Callitriche palustris var. elegans (synonyms C. elegans, C. verna var. elegans, & C. verna subsp. elegans) – southeastern and northeastern China, Japan, Sakhalin, and East European Russia[1]
- Callitriche palustris var. megalata – Russian Far East (Primorye)
- Callitriche palustris var. oryzetorum (synonym C. oryzetorum) – southern China, Taiwan, Japan, and western Himalayas[2]
- Callitriche palustris subsp. palustris (synonyms Elatine alata, C. alpina, C. angustifolia, C. aquatica, C. bifida, C. cespitosa, C. cuneifolia, C. euverna, C. fallax, C. fissa, C. intermedia, C. latifolia C. obtusangula subsp. alpina, C. pallens, C. stellata, C. stenocarpa, C. tenuifolia, C. verna, C. vernalis, C. vernalis, Stellaria bifida, and Stellaria verna) – North America (except the southeastern US and Central America) and temperate Eurasia[3]
- Callitriche palustris var. strumosa – Borneo and Sumatra
- Callitriche palustris subsp. subanceps (synonyms C. anceps subsp. subanceps and C. subanceps) – eastern Siberia and Russian Far East[4]
