Brandon Coleman (born October 12, 2000) is an American professional football offensive tackle for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He grew up in Germany before moving back to the United States for high school. Coleman played college football for the Trinity Valley Cardinals and TCU Horned Frogs prior to being selected by the Commanders in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.
Coleman was born on October 12, 2000, to an American military serviceman and a German woman in Newport News, Virginia.[1] [2] [3] He spent his childhood in Berlin, Germany, before returning to the United States in 2016 and enrolling at Denton High School in Denton, Texas.[3] He played basketball as a guard in Germany and first played American football in high school as a defensive lineman before playing on the offensive line as a senior.[3] [4]
Coleman began his collegiate career with the Trinity Valley Cardinals of Trinity Valley Community College in 2019, appearing in seven games.[3] [5] He was ranked a three-star junior college recruit and the eighth offensive tackle nationally by 247Sports, committing to play for the TCU Horned Frogs in 2020.[2]
Coleman played in the first four games of the 2020 season at TCU before his year ended due to injury.[3] He became a starter in 2021, finishing the season with 11 games played, eight as a starter.[6] He started all 15 games in 2022 and helped the team have one of the best offenses nationally while reaching the national championship, being named honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference.[4] [6] Entering the 2023 season, Coleman's athletic ability was cited on The Athletic annual "Freaks" list.[7] He was selected team captain and started 11 games, being named second-team All-Big 12 and an honorable mention for conference lineman of the year while allowing only one sack.[6] He played in the 2024 Senior Bowl.[8]
Coleman was selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round (67th overall) of the 2024 NFL draft.[9] He signed his four-year rookie contract on June 14, 2024.[10]
