Ben Hur is an unincorporated community in Mariposa County, California. It is located 9miles south of Mariposa, at an elevation of 1752 feet (534 m).
The community was established as a cattle ranch by Morgan Quick in 1859 and was originally called the Rancheria Place; the ranch would be owned and operated by the Quick family for six generations.[1]
A post office operated at Ben Hur from 1890 to 1902, and after moving from 1904 to 1951. The name comes from the hero of the novel Ben-Hur.[2]
