Barrientos Island is a small, ice-free island in the Aitcho group on the west side of English Strait in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Extending 1.71by, surface area 65ha.[1] The area was visited by early 19th century sealers. Barrientos Island is a popular tourist site frequented by Antarctic cruise ships.
The feature was named by the Chilean Antarctic Expedition in 1949.
The midpoint is located at -62.4061°N -59.7481°W and the island is lying 280m (920feet) northwest of Cecilia Island, 4km (02miles) north-northwest of Spark Point, Greenwich Island, 1.1km (00.7miles) northeast of Dee Island, 1.52km (00.94miles) east of Sierra Island, 900m (3,000feet) southeast of Pasarel Island, 1.9km (01.2miles) south-southeast of Bilyana Island and 3.6km (02.2miles) south-southwest of Fort William, Robert Island (British mapping in 1968, Chilean in 1971, Argentine in 1980, and Bulgarian in 2005 and 2009).
