The BYD Shark or BYD Shark 6 in some markets[1] is a plug-in hybrid mid-size pickup truck manufactured by BYD Auto since 2024. The vehicle debuted in Mexico in May 2024 as the first light utility vehicle model made by BYD. It is based on a body-on-frame chassis with a Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) hybrid drivetrain, similar to the platform used on the Fangchengbao Bao 5. The Shark is not marketed in China.[2]
The BYD Shark was introduced in Mexico on May 14, 2024. The pickup truck is powered by a 1.5-liter 1700NaN0 turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors, creating an electric four-wheel drive layout rated at 3200NaN0. It uses BYD's proprietary LFP blade battery with a capacity of 29.58 kWh installed with a cell-to-chassis technology.[3]
The claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 5.7 seconds, and the fuel consumption is claimed to be 7.51NaN1. It has a braked towing capacity of 2500-1NaN-1, an 835-1NaN-1 payload and 14500NaN0 cargo volume.[4]
The vehicle is marketed in Australia and New Zealand as the BYD Shark 6. It went on sale in Australia in late October 2024 in a single variant.[5] [6]
The Mexican market BYD Shark was introduced in May 2024. It is available in two trim levels, namely GL and GS.[7]
