Aspergillus brunneus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Aspergillus section.[1] The species was first described in 1893.[2] It has been reported to produce asperflavin, asperentins, auroglaucin, bisanthrons, dihydroauroglaucin, echinulins, 5-farnesyl-5,7-dihydroxy-4-methylphthalide, erythroglaucin, flavoglaucin, isoechinulins, mycophenolic acid, neoechinulins, physcion, questin, tetracyclic, and tetrahydroauroglaucin.[1]
A. brunneus has been cultivated on both Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA) plates and Malt Extract Agar Oxoid® (MEAOX) plates. The growth morphology of the colonies can be seen in the pictures below.
